The
modern town Dalyan is located on the east bank of the Dalyan Cayi
(River) and the ancient Carian city of Caunus lies on the western
bank. The Dalyan Cayi is the stream that meanders down to the sea
from Koycegiz Lake a short distance inland. The beach has been made
a protected area as the breeding-ground of Caretta Caretta, the
loggerhead turtle.
Approximately
a one-hour boat ride on the Dalyan River, another hour of an uphill
hike to the ancient city of Caunus
and a mud bath in an spa area close to the Koycegiz Lake are wonderful
things to do.
During
the boat ride you will see a lot of birds and have a chance to take
the photos of the rock-cut tombs on the surfaces of the rocks on
the hillside.
